I got an email with some recommendations from Amazon and my story was in there. What is neat is that it was a separate email not connected with that account. So that means perhaps other people got a similar email if they like similar types of stories. Here’s a screen shot. Thank you, Amazon!
Other than trying to work and all that, I recently had a short, flash fiction piece accepted in the Fall 2012 issue of From the Depths from Haunted Waters Press. That is exciting and I’ll let you know when it is published. It was from a contest I entered and it is a mere 13 words long.
I am also working on a short story that I wrote recently. It needs cleaning up, a few eyes other than my own and all that but I do like it. It is called Weight Watcher and look for it to come out soon.
My new short story is out and you can check it out on Amazon. Keep in mind that if you have a prime membership that you can borrow it for free. Check out We Interrupt this Program and I hope you like it. Here is the cover art.
I’ve been so busy, which is a good thing. The only bad part is that it has not been on my own stuff, it’s been on work that I need to bring in a paycheck. I did finish my one story and I haven’t published it yet because I wanted to try it out with some places I submitted it to. I’ll wait a while and see how that goes but I don’t have patience usually so to be honest, I’d like to go ahead and publish it. However, it’d be great if someone did want to publish it so I’m caught between waiting to see if that happens and wanting to just set it free and let everyone read it that wants to.
I have my next story in mind too but due to having to do other thing, I haven’t started on it yet. There’s no hurry though. I’d rather it be good than something I wrote really fast that doesn’t read well.
Wish me luck on finding that happy medium between having time to write and having enough work to keep me busy as well.
I have my new story just about done but I’ve been letting some nice people read it to give me constructive criticism. This brings me to the point I’m trying to make about perception and subjectivity. Two people gave me ideas on how to fix a few things and their feedback was so very much appreciated. The last person that read it loved it just how it was sent to them and said it was their favorite story of mine so far. Funny how one person can love something and others don’t.
It’s like if I go see a movie and love it but my friend thinks it’s trash, that bugs me. I’m not sure why but it does. For instance, I loved Sucker Punch and Hunger Games. Yet my friend Melissa didn’t really care for Hunger Games and hated Sucker Punch. That still bugs me to this day.
My point is, sometimes you simply have to just take the good and the bad and grow with it. If not for the first two friends, I wouldn’t have realized my mistakes in this story. If not for the third, I wouldn’t have seen how much someone actually loved it.
I’m saving this one to submit to a couple of places before I publish it because some places won’t take anything that’s been published elsewhere. Wish me luck.
I just got my first review on Amazon by someone I do not know in the least. What I mean is sure, my friends loved my story and left me good ratings and feedback. I also have some great people I met through here and Facebook that left good reviews and I love them for that. However, this is a total stranger. She wrote….well heck, I’ll quote it here and by the way, it’s for Peaceable Kingdom.
I generally don’t read this type of thing but I figured I could hack a few pages just to see how it has such high reviews. oh wow! that’s all I can say. I never imagined that ending. sure it was a touch on the crude side but whatever, it was a good read that will stick with you.
Now how cool is that? I love that someone left a good review and it wasn’t someone that may feel obligated or my be biased simply because they know me. Then again, maybe my friends that haven’t left a review are the ones that didn’t like it. Either way, I’m thrilled!
Now if I can just get this new story to flesh out like I want it. I read something by a great author. He basically said that the qualities of a great writer are (1) that you can think up a great story and (2) that you can execute it. I can think up some great stuff but it’s the execution that is hard for me. I know what I want it to say but making it pan out right is the hard part. Hey, I’m learning though. 🙂
I had a wonderful friend, who is also a writer, look at my rough draft and she had some great constructive criticism. It also gave me a few ideas as well as it allowed me to see where the holes were in my story. I’m so glad she looked at it because it sure needs work. However, I think the premise is great, I just need to work on the execution. It may be a little while till I get back to it but now I have clear direction on which way to move forward and that kind of advice is priceless.
I have a rough draft of my new story but I think I’ll let a couple of people read it before I do anything with it. What I’d love to do is submit it to some kind of anthology. That’s my dream – to be in something like Hot Blood or some kind of horror anthology. I can’t say what kind of anthology or I’d give away the ending. Anyway, if one of you wants to read the rough draft just let me know and keep in mind, it’s not done. However, at least you’ll have the general idea and can give me some constructive criticism. Right now, the name is The Bunker.
I fixed the weird thing that was happening with my blog where when accessed, it would open up a member’s area link. It seems I had used the URL to the site instead of my library link area. At least it’s all ready now and good to go. With that said, I have an idea for a new story. I will obviously need to flesh it out but I am liking what it will be so far. In fact, I haven’t been this excited over one of my ideas in quite some time but let’s see where it goes. The only clue I’ll give is that, oh wait…that’d ruin the ending, my clue. Okay so no hints for now but I think it’ll be liked.
